Ferdinand Habsburg (AUT) will enter the 2019 Macau GP with French team ART GP this November, looking to complete the task he started two years ago when he heroically took the lead of the race on the last lap before a final corner collision relegated him to fourth.
The DTM driver will test with ART at Valencia this Sunday (20thOctober) in preparation for the Macau GP that is widely considered the launch pad for many careers, listing Indycar racer Felix Rosenqvist (SW), Formula E driver António Félix da Costa (PT) and ART race-winning drivers Alexandre Prémat (FR) and Tristian Gommendy (FR) as recent victors.
“Macau GP is the race win that makes everyone sit up and listen,” explained Habsburg, who is supported by REMUS Performance Exhausts and Austrian engineering operation AVL. “That’s why in 2017 I pushed so hard to take the lead – I wasn’t there to finish in second place. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it stick on that occasion, but I intend to this year in my debut with ART.”
ART is one of the world’s most respected race teams across a number of motorsport disciplines and, under its former name ASM, has taken Macau GP victory twice before.
“The right team is essential at Macau,” said the Greenstorm-sponsored racing driver. “Testing is minimal, running is limited and often reduced, and qualifying is extremely important as it’s tough to pass. Turning up with the right package and with an experienced group of engineers and technicians, like they have at ART, means I can hit the weekend running.”
Macau GP takes place on the streets of Macau in China. The 6.12 km long circuit is narrow and fast meaning it takes commitment and bravery to set a competitive lap time. The F3 race is considered the main event of the race weekend, which also includes the FIA GT World Cup on the schedule.
“It’s going to be interesting getting back in the F3 car after a year in DTM” concluded the Aston Martin R-Motorsport driver. “But, as always, I’m ready for the challenge and head there with the win in my sights!”
